Three centuries of history,
and an unbroken belief
Over the last three centuries, three families have succeeded each other.
If their stories differ, they all shared the same certainty: that of the
supremacy of Moulin-à-Vent. Convinced of its value, the women and men who have lived within these walls have all worked to enhance the estate.

3 centuries of recognition
From the 19th to the 21st century, many awards and other official recognitions mark the life of Château du Moulin-à-Vent. The first, and perhaps the most significant, is the 1862 gold medal obtained at the Universal Exhibition in London, consecration for the visionary work of the owner at the time, Philiberte Pommier and her Château des Thorins. The latter became the Château du Moulin-à-Vent in 1936, date of birth of the first French AOCs, and now fully embodies the status of icon of its appellation. Recently, in 2017, 2020 and 2021, the estate was named by Wine & Spirits magazine as one of the 100 best estates in the world.
Philiberte Pommier, visionnary
As soon as she inherited the estate, she began structuring work: starting in 1794, she endeavours to bring particular care to the plot vineyards. She administered the Château des Thorins until her death in 1862 at the age of 99, when her life’s work was crowned with the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition.
She and her all-female successors will have led the estate with energy for more than a century, combining their quest for quality with their will of expansion.
Julien Damoy, entrepreneur
For the first time since 1732, the Château and its vineyards were sold to Julien Damoy in 1911.
He is one of the main actors in the modernization of food trade in the 19th century. Passionate about wine, he decided to become a producer-harvester at Moulin-à-Vent and at Chambertin Clos de Bèze. These two wines were sold at the beginning of the 20th century at equivalent prices.
The longevity of Château du Moulin-à-Vent on the international stage is proof of its character : exciting things have, and will, take place at the estate. This strong belief, over three centuries, has rallied past and present estate’s owners.
Édouard Parinet & Brice Laffond: the rebirth
In 2009 the Parinet family acquired the estate from the Damoy heirs. This handover allows the Château to return to centre stage, as the region had been going through a major crisis since the mid-1990s.
If time passes, the terroir remains: in line with their predecessors, Édouard and Brice rely on this keystone to showcase the diversity and grandeur of Moulin-à-Vent.
